Digital Imaging

At Academy Vet Centre we have modern digital x-ray equipment to take instant, high quality x-rays to aid in diagnosis or for B.V.A Hip and Elbow Canine Health Schemes,
The advantages of digital x-ray over a traditional system are:

  • Lower exposure means that procedure is safer for your pets
  • Superior image quality - making diagnosis easier and more accurate
  • Quicker diagnosis
  • More environmentally friendly as no need for chemicals
  • Images can be stored on a computer and attached to your pet’s record and retrieved easily
  • Images can be transferred between vets for second opinions, sent to specialists or sent to insurance companies.

Neutering

We offer neutering for

  • Cats
  • Dogs
  • Rabbits
  • Ferrets.

Neutering can help prevent illnesses and some unwanted behaviours.

For FREE advice and estimates for the cost of neutering please give us a call or pop into the surgery. We understand that the thought of even routine operations can be daunting. Knowing that you are bringing your pet to an RCVS Accredited Practice gives you the peace of mind that you are leaving your pet in safe hands. The routine surgery is performed by our veterinary surgeons with the assistance of our caring nursing team.

Microchipping

It’s easy to have your pet microchipped and it’s the responsible thing to do. Having your pet fitted microchip means you have the best chance of being reunited with your pet if they go missing.

We can microchip almost any animal – cat, dog, horse and exotics. Microchipping of all dogs before they reach 8 weeks old is a legal requirement.

Pet Passports, Health Certificates for Export

For our clients wishing to travel abroad with their pets, we can arrange everything to meet the requirements for a PETS passport.

The PETS travel scheme allows domestic dogs and cats to accompany their owners abroad to certain countries and return to the UK without undergoing quarantine. The qualifying countries include member states of the EEC, USA and Canada. This means you can now go on holiday with your pet as long as you fulfil the conditions of the scheme.

The PETS scheme requires a large number of conditions to be met and you should research them well. All the latest information is available on the DEFRA website www.defra.gov.uk/pets or call their hotline on 03702411710. You should always check the rules with DEFRA before travelling even if you are only going to the EU as they vary widely from country to country.

Ultrasonography & Pregnancy Diagnosis

We have an ultrasound scanner which can aid in the diagnosis of a range of medical conditions. The machine is most commonly used for abdominal scans and pregnancy diagnosis.
